Just like Michael Strahan, Carey Mulligan, the English actress playing Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby, grew up in Germany. Both of them were relieved that neither could speak German because neither wanted to be embarrassed on air.

Good thing the acting career worked out.

Carey Mulligan Tried Scuba Diving and Hated It

While filming for The Great Gatsby in Australia, Mulligan said she took some scuba diving lessons but she hated diving when she actually had the chance to do it. Besides the huge sharks and strange fish, she said there are salt water crocodiles that make the sharks look like fluffy little puppies.

Every time the instructor would take her down, at a certain point she would get anxious and just swim to the top. She said that will probably be her first and last time scuba diving.

Carey Mulligan As Daisy Buchanan In The Great Gatsby

Carey Mulligan is playing the role of Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby. She said her character is very wealthy and is married to a very wealthy and famous man, Tom Buchanan. A lot of readers would call her silly, eccentric and a bit shallow at times during the book and she is the same in the movie.

While Kelly thought Carey Mulligan was the embodiment of Daisy Buchanan, the director didn’t think so. He made her go to two different auditions for the part, both an hour and a half long.

Mulligan called the auditions the biggest she had ever went to and one of the most nerve racking since her “acting hero,” Leonardo DiCaprio, was reading along with her. She even had to kiss Leonardo during the audition. Just imagine having to kiss someone you used to watch in movies when you were younger, someone who you have never even met before. It must have been a good kiss because she got the role.

Carey Mulligan Learns To Dance

Michael wanted to know how she got so good at dancing since there are a number of dance scenes in movie. She said she is actually a terrible dancer so she went to dance classes for the movie but she loved going because it made her a better dancer in real life as well.

You can see more of Carey Mulligan when The Great Gatsby opens May 10 2013.
