Taraji P. Henson: Walter Steiger Shoes
Academy Award nominated actress Taraji P. Henson joined Kelly and Michael for her first appearance on Live! “We were going to talk about your career, but instead, we’re going to talk about your shoes,” Kelly said as Taraji walked out in her Walter Steiger heels. Taraji said she wore them just for Kelly, who she knows is a “shoe girl” like her.
Taraji P. Henson: Rejected From Acting School
Taraji, who was born and raised in Washington D.C., has an interesting story about how she began her career. At the age of 14, Taraji auditioned for the Duke Ellington School of Fine Arts, but was ultimately rejected. That’s when she decided to give up on her dream of acting and pursue a new career as an electrical engineer.
The turning point for Taraji was when she failed pre-calculus and called her father crying. Taraji’s father told her that she had failed because she was meant to be an actress. Now, Taraji loves to tell that story, especially to kids. It’s a great example of the old adage, “when one door closes, another one opens.”
Taraji P. Henson: Person Of Interest
Now, Taraji stars alongside Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson on the exciting police drama Person of Interest. Taraji was suggested for the part by J.J. Abrams, and then received a call from Academy Award nominated screenwriter Jonathan Nolan. “He had me at ‘Hello,’” Taraji said of the call.
The only issue with Taraji’s role is that she has to dress down in order to play a tough NYPD homicide detective. That’s why she dresses up for all her talk show appearances! Watch Taraji P. Henson on Person of Interest, airing Thursday nights at 9 p.m. on CBS.
