Robert Downey, Jr: 48th Birthday

Prior to the release of his highly-anticipated blockbuster Iron Man 3, Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey, Jr., stopped by Live! with Kelly & Michael for an interview. Despite his eternal “boyish” looks, Robert recently celebrated his 48th birthday. He said that his Iron Man 3 press tour is “reverse aging” him.

Robert’s actual birthday, April 4, was celebrated in Seoul, South Korea where five thousand fans sang him “Happy Birthday” at a mall. He also visited China on his tour, and even revealed that he’s been studying for his black belt in wing chun martial arts.

Robert Downey, Jr: 14-Month-Old Son Exton

Robert also stays young thanks to his 14-month-old son, Exton. He doesn’t mind doing diapers, because he doesn’t mind the smell of his own son’s diapers. Other kids’ diapers, he’s not so sure about, but when it’s your baby, apparently you don’t mind! A poor young fan in the audience got blamed for “understanding,” but then Robert made it up to her by giving her a kiss on the cheek.

Robert is reprising his role as billionaire superhero Tony Stark in Iron Man 3. He called Tony “such a blast” to play, because he has such an interesting back story. “I wish I were Tony Stark sometimes, too,” Robert told Michael, who recently admitted the same thing.


However, it wasn’t all fun and games on set of Iron Man 3. Production was shut down for two months when Robert injured his ankle. The injury was caused because Robert became a little too confident with the wire jumps. Sounds painful!

Robert Downey, Jr: Will There Be an Iron Man 4?

Robert grew up reading comic books, so it’s “a dream come true” to play such a great superhero character. So will there be a fourth Iron Man film? It looks like the jury’s still out. When Robert said that the coolest Iron Man gadget is a retro reflector panel that makes his suit invisible, he slipped and said they’d use it “next time.” But when Michael caught him he said, “I’m neither confirming nor denying that.” I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

Kelly & Michael previewed the film with a clip featuring Tony Stark and Pepper Potts, played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Iron Man 3 opens Friday, May 3, 2013.
