Kelly & Michael: Academy Awards Viewing Party
Didn’t score an invitation to the Oscars? Me neither! However, we can still enjoy the glamour, glitz and fun at home with an Academy Awards viewing party. Carley Roney, editor in chief of The Nest, stopped by to share her Oscar viewing party tips with Kelly and Michael.
Re-create the star treatment for your guests with a red carpet inside your home. You can print out Hollywood Walk of Fame Stars and tape them to the floor. It’s the next best thing to Hollywood Boulevard! Serve champagne in flutes with black bow ties on the stem, and decorate your wine bottles or tables with mini-movie posters. Carley suggests checking your local party store for inexpensive, movie-themed decor.
Carley Roney: Oscar Viewing Party Tips & Themed Menu
When your guests get hungry, serve a popcorn bar and plenty of movie theater candy. Prepare main courses inspired by this year’s nominated films; Philly cheesesteaks for Silver Linings Playbook, Louisiana gumbo for Beasts of the Southern Wild and fondue inspired by Argo, which is set in the 1970s.
Play a version of Oscar Bingo during the show, and even allow your guests to become a nominee. Assign each person an actor, actress or director, and then if he or she wins, your guest also wins! Swanky gift bags should include movie gift cards and chocolates.
Kelly & Michael: Highlights From 2012 Oscar Show
Kelly and Michael wrapped things up with a look at highlights from last year’s Oscar show. Kelly co-hosted with Neil Patrick Harris from the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles and had the chance to chat with stars like Meryl Streep, Tom Cruise and Will Ferrell backstage. This year’s show – which will be Michael’s first – should be better than ever. See you then!
