James Purefoy: Portrays Serial Killer On The Following
Kelly was a bit intimidated to speak with actor James Purefoy, who portrays an evil yet very charismatic serial killer on the new Fox series The Following. “What a lovely, lovely welcome for a very bad man,” James joked. However, he assured everyone that he’s just “a nice family guy.”
James has a newborn baby, and he said that she’s a “great disarmer” for people who first meet him. They think he’s creepy until they see the adorable baby he’s carrying! James must not have had his baby with him during a recent fan encounter, though. He had someone ask him where Starbucks was, and then when he recognized James from The Following, he ran away!
James Purefoy: First Job In Theater Equus
James may be a TV star now, but his first acting experience was in theater at 18-years-old. In fact, his very first job was a play called Equus, where he had to get completely naked on stage. The theater was a converted barn in the countryside of England which would get very chilly, to say the least. “You know what happens to a chap when it gets cold,” James said. Often, he used a hair dryer on himself backstage!
James Purefoy: Researching Serial Killers
For his role as a cold-blooded killer, James has done countless research. He pointed out how easy it is to find information with the help of the internet. He’s been able to download chilling interviews with serial killers, and he even listens to them while he jogs through New York. “One minute it’s Jay-Z, the next minute it’s Ted Bundy,” he said.
To see more of James Purefoy as the sinister Dr. Joe Carroll, catch The Following Mondays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
