Kelly and Michael: Honey Boo Boo & Mama June
If you haven’t seen Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, you have probably heard of its star and the family’s matriarch, Mama June. They visited Kelly and Michael for the first time.
Kelly & Michael: Toddlers and Tiaras
Honey Boo Boo got her start in the pageant world, and before long she and her mom were some of the most recognizable characters on the TLC reality series Toddlers and Tiaras. They never expected to become famous all over America.
Mama June did most of the talking, explaining that they continued competing in pageants during the first season of the show. “In south Georgia, they really actually are very supportive, and win or lose, all the moms stick together and congratulate their kids,” June Shannon said.
She said that they were in it to have fun and make friends.
Kelly and Michael: Mama June Chat Room with Sugar Bear
Michael Strahan said that he thinks people love the family’s spinoff, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, because it is a family affair. The hosts showed pictures of Mama June’s summer wedding to Sugar Bear.
She said they met online in a Yahoo chat room. Kelly Ripa loved this story, and wondered what the conversation was like. What she said was a “hook ‘em and book ‘em” situation initially developed over time into a romance.
June said she loves that he buys her some favorite candles from Bath and Body Works. Honey Boo Boo said that they have a stockpile of candles around the house. June is also an extreme couponer.
Kelly & Michael: Honey Boo Boo At School
What is it like for Alanna Thompson (a.k.a. Honey Boo Boo), age eight, to go to school as a reality star? She said they don’t treat her differently than the other kids. June said that it’s more of a distraction for the away team when she plays softball with her classmates.
In a scene from the show, the family complained that two sticks was not enough butter in their mashed potatoes at dinner. Then Kelly and Michael asked questions from viewers.
Mama June said her foot is doing OK. What one food would they want to eat for the rest of their lives? Alana picked chicken nuggets and June chose pizza. Lastly, Alana taught the hosts a cheerleading cheer.
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo can be seen Thursdays on TLC.
