Caroline Kennedy: “Sweet Caroline” By Neil Diamond
Caroline Kennedy – daughter of President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis – is not only a living American treasure, but also a celebrated author. Caroline stopped by Live! with Kelly & Michael for a discussion on her new book, Poems to Learn by Heart. With her new collection, Caroline hopes to provide children with an introduction to some of her favorite works of literature. But first, Kelly Ripa pointed out an interesting trivia fact regarding America’s favorite former first daughter.
Did you know that Neil Diamond’s 1969 hit “Sweet Caroline” was written about Caroline Kennedy? I thought that was common knowledge, but apparently not, because Kelly had no clue. Caroline was very humble about it, but there’s no denying it’s pretty cool. How many people are able to claim that Neil Diamond wrote a song about them?
Caroline Kennedy: Favorite Childhood Poems
Caroline Kennedy has admitted to sharing a love of poetry with her family during her childhood. She and her brother, John, would often recite poems for their mother and create illustrations for their favorite works of literature. One of their very favorites was “Paul Revere’s Ride” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow – how fittingly patriotic for a First Family! Now, Caroline is hoping to share this love of great literature with American children today and to inspire a love of reading.
