These days, Billy Gardell is known for his television role in the hit sitcom Mike & Molly. However, he got his start in show business a long time ago as a stand-up comic. Billy was actually seventeen years old and working at a factory when a bunch of his co-workers bet him to go and perform at an open mic. Billy nailed his first time up in front of a crowd, but after that, it was quite a long struggle towards success. Billy continues to do stand-up to this day, and the success of Mike & Molly has helped him gain a wider audience.

Billy explained that before he hit it big with a popular television show, he was about ready to go back home to Pittsburgh and quit acting for good. He decided to stick around for one more pilot season, and Mike & Molly was the last show that he read for. Good thing he stuck around!

Billy Gardell: Wife Patty and Son Will

Billy Gardell has a wife, Patty, and a nine-year-old son, Will. He joked, “I’m married on TV and in real life, so I’m never right.” Will is very funny, but he doesn’t want to be a comic like his dad. Instead, he’d like to be a chef when he grows up. Billy emphasized that he is “not an L.A. dad.” If his son starts something, he wants to see him finish it. He’s supportive of whatever his son wants to do, but he doesn’t want him to be a quitter.

Billy Gardell: “Mike & Molly” Season Three

Mike & Molly is set to premiere its third season September 24 on CBS. As the title suggests, the show centers around Mike, played by Billy, and Molly, played by Melissa McCarthy. Mike and Molly are newly married this season, and in a preview clip, Kelly & Michael saw that  the couple are still trying (and failing) to lose weight. For all of the hilarious hijinks between the newlyweds, don’t miss Mike & Molly at 9:30 p.m. on CBS.
