Kelly and Michael: Julianna Margulies Fashion

Julianna Margulies always looks chic, and Kelly Ripa quizzed The Good Wife star about her fashion routine.

Margulies said she does work with a stylist, but considered herself minimalist. “I’m a tomboy, so when I have to dress up like a girl, I try to dress up like a boy-girl,” she joked.

Kelly & Michael: Julianna Margulies & Dylan McDermott Practical Jokes

At the Emmy Awards, she presented with onetime co-star Dylan McDermott, whom she worked with on the TNT miniseries The Grid. Though he seems serious, Margulies called him “one of the funniest guys I’ve ever met.”

While working on The Grid, she dined out with McDermott regularly, and every night he would tell the waiters that it was her birthday. I guess this was before everyone had Google on their phones to verify this information, but that’s a pretty good running joke.

Margulies hit the red carpet at the Emmy Awards with her husband Keith. The couple talked to Live!’s Lawrence Zarian, and Keith praised his wife’s sympathy for others. She said that was the first time her husband has ever voluntarily spoken on television.

Kelly & Michael: The Good Wife Season 5

The Good Wife is kicking off its fifth season, which is music to my ears. This is one of my favorite shows! Margulies said she feels like she is on a new show this year.

“For some reason the writing this year” has gone up a notch, which Margulies suspected might have something to do with the media’s constant qualified praise of the show. She suggested that the stories in the new year have “raised the bar incredibly.”

She is not sure whether the show can keep up the explosive betrayal and relentless anxiety, and Margulies previewed some darker turns for her usually likable character, Alicia.

Kelly and Michael: Weiner-Spitzer + The Good Wife

Ripa said she thinks life is now starting to imitate art, as politicians are tuning in to the show. Margulies called the recent “Weiner-Spitzer stuff” in the news cycle “the gift that keeps on giving” for her show.

In a clip from the new season, Alicia has to play coy in front of the partners about her decision to leave the firm, as her bosses start to sense that there is mutiny afoot. I have missed this show!

The Good Wife kicks off its fifth season September 29 on CBS.
