Kelly & Michael: 1980s Prom Looks
We knew that a prom segment was coming, but we never expected Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan to dress up like characters from a John Hughes movie. Before they checked out the latest prom trends, Kelly and Michael sported some of the trends that you definitely won’t be seeing at prom 2013.
Kelly wore a giant permed wig, a ruffled red dress and elbow-length red gloves. Michael wore a white tuxedo and Arsenio Hall hair. It was like a 1980s explosion onto our television screens.
The hosts later sat down with Amy Astley, Editor in Chief of Teen Vogue. “I feel underdressed now,” Amy said. Kelly, Michael and Amy enjoyed a prom fashion show that was thankfully a lot more understated.
2013 Prom Trend: White Lace
The first trend was white lace, a very “feminine, innocent and pretty” look. The long dress was paired with simple accessories and soft hair and makeup.
- Dress: $156 from Windsor
2013 Prom Trend: Metallic
Short dresses are a fun take on the traditional prom dress and are sure to help you stand out from the crowd. The next look featured a black and metallic dress that was short and fun. The look is 80s inspired, but doesn’t go overboard.
- Dress: $102 from Asos
2013 Prom Trend: Tuxedo
The tuxedo for girls is very unexpected at prom, but very simple, chic and comfortable. Amy said that this look would be perfect for a “fashion risk-taker.” Pair the tuxedo with simple metallic pumps.
- Pants and Jacket: $99 and $79 from Zara
2013 Prom Trend: Neon
Neon looks great on young girls. The next look featured a neon pink dress and matching studded heels.
2013 Prom Trend: Prom Princess
Prom Princess isn’t really a trend, since it’s always classic. Think strapless, simple and very red carpet inspired.
- Dress: $250 at JCPenney, designed by Georgina Chapman of Marchesa
