Kelly and Carrie Ann: Snow White and Rose Red
On July 5, 2012, Kelly Ripa was joined by “Dancing with the Stars” judge Carrie Ann Inaba as guest co-host on “Live With Kelly.” As they sat down to begin the show, Kelly asked Carrie Ann, “have you ever read the book Snow White and Rose Red?” Carrie Ann hadn’t, but Kelly said “we look just like them!” The story is about Snow White and her sister, Rose Red: one with dark hair, one with blonde hair.
Live With Kelly: Anniversary of the Bikini
You might not have known it before, but July 5 is a pretty important day in history: it’s the anniversary of the Bikini Swimsuit. The bikini was invented by French designer Louis Reard on July 5, 1946. The name “bikini” was inspired by the Bikini Atoll Islands in the Pacific Ocean, which had just undergone atomic testing.
In America, a country which has traditionally been more prudish than the rest of the world, the bikini took a while to catch on. It did not become truly popular until the early 1960s. Actress Annette Funicello, The Beach Boys, and even Brian Hyland’s song, “Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini,” were all pop culture phenomena that helped make the bikini the must-have beach outfit.
Carrie Ann said that she wore bikinis twenty years ago; now, she wears “a sack.” Kelly said that she has to wear a bikini, because she has a very long torso. One piece suits don’t ever fit her properly. Happy birthday Bikini!
Live With Kelly: The Color Red
According to a study on the color red, red cars are more likely to attract bird poop. You are also more likely to be pulled over by police if you drive a red car.
Carrie Ann pointed out, if you work on “Dancing with the Stars,” you’re also more likely to get into a fight with pro-dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Carrie Ann said that whenever she wears red, she ends up fighting with Maks! Kelly suggested that maybe there is sexual tension between the two of them, but Carrie Ann explained that it is because they are both Capricorns. They are both very passionate and sometimes butt heads.
Live With Kelly: Food, Sex, and Facebook
Kelly described an interesting study that linked the pleasures of Facebook to the pleasures of food and sex; apparently, they’re all the same! When you post something on Facebook that people see and “like,” your brain reacts in the same way that it would to food or sex.
Carrie Ann said that she likes Twitter. She actually had some Twitter friends in the audience; they were just fans that she met through Twitter and invited onto the show!
Live With Kelly: Cutest Kid Search
Kelly wanted to remind everyone that there is still time to enter the “Live” Cutest Kid Contest. If you know an adorable child, send in your photos to the “Live with Kelly” website. But you only have until Friday, July 6!
Surf’s Up Trivia: Blake Lively
On Surf’s Up Trivia, a caller won a trip to the Smuggler’s Cove Resort in St. Lucia. He answered that Green Lantern was the movie in which Blake Lively starred with Ryan Reynolds. An audience member also won a gift card to Omaha Steaks.
