Good Morning America: Nathan Sawaya The Art Of The Brick

Lego artist Nathan Sawaya has a new exhibit at Discovery Times Square called The Art Of The Brick that is built entirely from Legos. He came on the show today to show us some of his recreations of well-known pieces of art, one of which was an eerily close representation of Edvard Munch’s The Scream. The bricks lent the expressionist piece almost a 16-bit look, making it modern-retro. This was just one example of a very important part of the exhibition that is taking art history and reproducing it out of Legos.

Nathan Sawaya said that there are over 100 sculptures at times square, some of which are representations of classical pieces, and each takes weeks to build. Not only is Nathan recreating classics, however, but he also made some of his own unique pieces to bring to the show, from Halo‘s Master Chief to a giant Blackberry Smartphone.
