GMA: Kate Middleton Maternity Clothes

GMA reported February 19 2013 that Kate Middleton’s maternity clothes are causing a stir in the fashion world. The princess was hospitalized for most of her first trimester due to acute morning sickness, but now that she’s better and she’s stepping outside, people are taking notice of her fashion. Her fashion choices were huge before she got pregnant, but now they’re causing even more of a commotion.

Fashion insiders call the effect she has on fashion The Kate Effect. She has a mix of high-priced and low-priced clothing and people really take notice. An outfit she wears could sell out across the world.

GMA: Cameron Russell Speaking Out Against Modeling

Supermodel Cameron Russell is speaking out against the fashion industry and putting beautiful women on a pedestal. Russell said she felt she won “the genetic lottery” and that the industry is all about “can you show up with a 23 inch waist” rather than any work that she’s actually done.

The model’s speech at a TED talk has received more than one million views on YouTube. Cameron Russell said that young girls should not want to be models, because she said that it’s not a career path. She said that young women should want to be engineers or CEOs, not models.

The irony of Cameron Russell being able to tell young girls not to become models and her message being heard because she’s famous for being a model was not pointed out on Good Morning America, but it seems like something that’s worth talking about.

Cameron Russell said she is interested in campaign finance reform and climate change. Good Morning America talked to Logan Levkoff, an author and educator. Levkoff said what she hopes people take away from this is that beauty is not just on the outside and that young girls remember that princesses have brains and careers. The irony of having just glorified a princess’ fashion sense, without so much as a quote from Kate Middleton or a mention of who she is as a person, and following it with a story about a supermodel who thinks young girls should aspire to be more than princesses or fashion models, seems to have escaped Good Morning America, too.
