Good Morning America: Backstreet Boys Reunion

The ultimate boy band, the Backstreet Boys, appeared on Good Morning America’s Summer Concert Series Friday, August 31 for their first concert since Kevin Richardson announced he was rejoining the band for a true Backstreet Boys reunion.

The five members, A.J. McLean, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, Nick Carter and Richardson, have been together for almost 20 years, bringing fans powerful lyrics and smooth dance moves. The band was wearing Robin Roberts’ Prayer for Protection wristbands to support the GMA anchor.

GMA: Backstreet Boys New Album

The group hasn’t been together in the studio since 2005, choosing instead to start families and work on solo albums. In July, they made a big announcement on GMA: they were recording a new album together in London.

GMA’s Lara Spencer sat down with the famed boy band and asked them the Pepsi Fan Favorite Question: What is the best part of getting back together?

“This right here,” Dorough said, motioning to an enormous crowd of screaming fans.

McLean had an important message for the fans.

“It’s like we never stopped, which we never stopped, and now we’ve got Kev back so Backstreet’s back,” McLean said.

What Made Kevin Richardson Rejoin Backstreet Boys

Spencer asked Richardson what made him decide to come back.

“I’m a person that always follows my heart and follows my gut and my heart said, ‘Now’s the time,’” Richardson said. “It just felt right, I feel inspired to make music again with these guys and you know, when I left, it had nothing to do at all with our relationship right here, it just had to do with me just needing to be inspired and so I had to step away for awhile.”

The band has a new CD and they’re working on a world tour. Spencer said with their families it’s like the band has new baby groupies.

“2013 is going to be a big year for us, it’s our twentieth anniversary,” Richardson said. “We’re in the studio right now and we’re working on a new album, so we’re going to have that ready hopefully at the beginning of next year.”

Backstreet Boys fans should planning a vacation for next October.

“And also next year just so you guys know there will be a BSB cruise next year in October with all five,” McLean said.

“Larger Than Life” Dedicated to Robin Roberts

The Backstreet Boys dedicated their song “Larger Than Life” to Robin and the Roberts family.

The Backstreet Boys have sold 130 million albums worldwide and are getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They were also the number one trending topic in the world Friday on Twitter.

Backstreet Boys Perform on Good Morning America

The group performed their fan favorite hits, “Incomplete,” “I Want It That Way,” and “Everybody.”
