When it was released back in 1997, James Cameron’s historical epic Titanic broke box-office records, won eleven Academy Awards, and made stars Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio two of the most famous people in the world practically overnight. Titanic is a beloved film for many reasons: the love story, the action, and the classic, historical drama. Director James Cameron, who is also a passionate explorer of the ocean, discussed the release of Titanic 3D on DVD on GMA September 7.

James Cameron has dove into the ocean to explore the wreck of the Titanic an astonishing 39 times. It is this passion for the ship, for the ocean, and for history that drove Cameron to make the film fifteen years ago. Back in April, Titanic 3D was released in theaters in honor of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ship. Now, with the DVD, you can enjoy the film and many hours of bonus footage from the comfort of your own home.

On the DVD, you will find a National Geographic documentary that details Cameron’s deep sea dives, plus nearly an entire hour of never-before-seen bonus scenes. Cameron surprisingly referred to the first two hours of his classic film as “a snore;” so, with a DVD, you can fast-forward if you like!
