Iyanla: Fix My Life on the Oprah Winfrey Network
On the new Oprah Winfrey show, Iyanla: Fix My Life, Iyanla Vanzant helps people heal themselves after trouble in their lives. Oprah called in and Vanzant appeared on Good Morning America to talk about the show.
Life coach Vanzant first appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show in the ’90s. She is faith-based and after going through many personal struggles, she is determined to help other with their own.
“The minute I gave up the need to be right, the suffering turned into healing and learning,” Vanzant said.
Basketball Wives’ Evelyn Lozada on Iyanla: Fix My Life
The first episode centers around Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada, who is the estranged wife of NFL player Chad Johnson. Lozada works with Vanzant to deal with her heartbreak and move on with her life.
Good Morning America’s George Stephanopoulos asked Oprah why she referred to the show as the best OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) show she’s ever produced.
“It has everything that viewers love in a reality show,” Oprah said. “You know, those jaw-dropping moments that cause you to say, ‘I can’t believe I’m watching this on television,’ and it also has everything that I love about the power of television: entertainment plus a-ha! moments.”
Oprah and Vanzant had to Mend Their Own Relationship
Oprah said that Vanzant is “at her finest” in the show and that it’s a program that both men and women will enjoy.
“It’s participatory television. Not only do the guests participate, but there’s an opportunity for the audience to participate, to take notes and say ‘I did that, I’m there, I know that,’” Vanzant said. “That’s what makes a difference. It’s a healing process, it’s a learning process, it’s a loving process, it really is a loving process.”
Oprah and Vanzant have also had to heal their own relationship after trouble in the past.
“We are a living demonstration of what it takes to mend a relationship breakdown,” Vanzant said. “We did it publicly and now we’ve been able to move on. In so many places in our society today people are in relationship breakdown.”
Gayle King & Oprah: Iyanla: Fix My Life Review
Oprah named Iyanla her “biggest supporter from the beginning,” and talked about how excited she is for the show to premiere. She had her friend Gayle King watch the tapes and they both agreed that they had never seen anything like Fix My Life.
Oprah is down in New Orleans filming The Butler, a story about a White House butler that serves eight different presidents. Winfrey plays Gloria Gaines, the wife of Forest Whitaker’s character Cecil.
“It’s about looking at the historical happenings of that time,” Oprah said.
Part one of Iyanla: Fix My Life’s episode with Evelyn Lozada premieres Saturday, September 15 2012, and you can catch part two on Sunday, both at 10/9 central.
