GMA: Diane von Furstenberg The DVF Awards
Diane von Furstenberg came by Good Morning America March 19 2013 to talk about the DVF Awards on April 5. The award ceremony gives out five awards to women who inspire and encourage other women. This year, the People’s Voice Award will honor four remarkable women. This year the nominees are:
- Tina Frundt, an amazing woman who survived sex trafficking and is now helping other people, boys and girls.
- Talia Leman, the founder of RandomKid which helps the youth with education and mobilization, and who, by the way, is also only 17.
- Col. Kim Olson, a veteran who helps other female veterans with her organization Grace Under Fire.
- Tammy Tibetts, president and founder of She’s the First, which helps with girls’ education in developing countries.
If you go on the DVF Awards website you can watch their videos, read about them and what they do and vote. Robin Roberts said she hasn’t been able to pick one to vote for yet on the website. Diane von Furstenberg said the more people who vote, the fairer it is.
I went on myself and I have to say, all of the candidates are remarkable people. It’ll be difficult to pick just one.
GMA: Diane von Furstenberg Lifetime Leadership Award
Diane von Furstenberg said that the DVF Awards also has a Lifetime Leadership Award which in previous years has gone to women like Oprah and Hillary Clinton. This year, it’s going to Robin Roberts. She mentioned that Robin Roberts told her in an email that she doesn’t always accept award nominations, but in this case she wanted to because she knew what an honor it was. Robin Roberts joked that Diane von Furstenberg just got her in trouble with all the awards she turned down.
