GMA: Daniel Day-Lewis Best Actor Oscar
Daniel Day-Lewis won his third Oscar for Best Actor for his performance as Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln. When he sat down with George Stephanopoulos behind the scenes of the Oscars to talk about his big win, George Stephanopoulos said he almost called him “Mr. President.”
GMA: Daniel Day-Lewis As Abraham Lincoln
Daniel Day-Lewis said he didn’t know anything about Abraham Lincoln when he got the role. He said that everything he learned was new.
“The more you discover the flaw lines in a character, the more impressive they become, in a strange way,” Daniel Day-Lewis said.
At the Oscars during his speech, he joked that his wife has lived with some strange men since they first got married 15 years ago. Daniel Day-Lewis is a method actor, so his wife no doubt had to hear him ask about her day as Abraham Lincoln a lot. Not to mention that at one point, she was living with Bill the Butcher from Gangs of New York. That must’ve made for interesting breakfast conversation.
GMA: Christoph Waltz Best Supporting Actor Oscar
George Stephanopoulos also caught up with Christoph Waltz after his Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor in Django Unchained. During his Oscar speech, Christoph Waltz referred to Quentin Tarantino as going through a hero’s journey. George Stephanopoulos asked him why he was a hero. Christoph said that Quentin is going through a fight that leads to inner progress, which he considered a hero’s journey.
Christoph Waltz said that he thought it was an honor to be invited to go on that journey. While he was talking, Samuel L. Jackson came up next to him and gave him a big kiss on his cheek.
