Good Morning America: Pop News
The Pop News segment Good Morning America caught everybody up on their favorite guilty pleasure, celebrity gossip. With celebrities Ashton Kutcher, Liam Hemsworth and Jason Sudeikis in the studio this morning, this segment seemed especially appropriate today.
GMA: Simon Cowell Baby with Lauren Silverman
The first story concerned the man everyone loves to hate, Simon Cowell. Cowell, who became TV’s most identifiable bad guy on American Idol and now fills his days by crushing people’s dreams on The X Factor USA, is apparently about to become a father for the first time at the ripe old age of 53.
The sad part is that this child wasn’t planned. Instead, the child is the product of Cowell and his mistress (who was married at the time of conception), New York socialite and wife of Cowell’s close friend, Lauren Silverman. Silverman, who was in the news last week when allegations of a scandal involving a 16-year-old Silverman and her then high school teacher came to light, is said to be ten weeks pregnant.
Sadly, this story only gets worse. Cowell reportedly ended the family-wrecking affair six weeks ago, and Lauren’s husband and, I think it’s safe to say, Cowell’s now former friend Andrew Silverman, is seeking a divorce. Lauren’s mother, Carole Saland, has called out Cowell in the news, telling him to do the right thing and marry her daughter. Cowell has reported to friends that he is feeling trapped, but is excited at the prospect of becoming a father.
GMA: Ellen DeGeneres 2014 Academy Awards Host
On a lighter note, it was announced over the weekend that the ever wonderful Ellen DeGeneres, the host of the popular program The Ellen DeGeneres Show and wife of brilliant actress Portia de Rossi, now Portia DeGeneres, will be hosting the Oscars for the second time. Her first stint came back in 2007. Critics believe that the move is a direct result of the bomb that was last year’s awards, hosted by the sometimes funny, always crass Seth MacFarlane, known most successfully as the creator of Family Guy. DeGeneres is everything that MacFarlane isn’t. She’s warm, caring, rarely controversial, and always funny.
Good Morning America: Raven-Symone Coming Out
Finally, completing this segment, Raven-Symoné, who first took our hearts as the cute and sassy Olivia on The Cosby Show, came out this weekend on her personal Twitter feed. By tweeting, “I can finally get married! Yay government! So proud of you,” Symone finally put to rest all the is-she-isn’t-she rumors and confirmed what many already believed. She’s gay and she’s OK with that. You should be too. All this reporter has to say is, that’s so Raven.
