GMA: Jessica Alba The Honest Life Book

Actress Jessica Alba’s new book, The Honest Life, is all about helping families make natural choices. The philosophy of her book all stemmed from her doing a load of laundry. She had an allergic reaction to a “baby safe” laundry detergent and she decided to do research to find out why.

She said she wondered what it would do to her child if it did that to her. She said she found out that there were a lot of toxic chemicals in many household products, like laundry detergent, cleaning supplies and shampoo. She said she wanted to do something to help families who might not have known about this, so she started figuring out how to live naturally and writing about it.

Jessica Alba said she started the Honest Company so families would have high performance, high quality products without toxic chemicals. Lara Spencer asked her how she balanced that with acting. She said she found it very exciting and enjoyed helping families.

Jessica Alba said she wished that she had a guide book for parenting, so in her book there’s information about what you really need in a baby bag. There are also DIY beauty tips and fashion tips. Alba said she uses an avocado and olive oil mixture in her hair to help it shine. She said she doesn’t put it on her roots, but uses it in the hair away from her scalp. She also uses a two part raw sugar and one part olive oil scrub for her face. Then, there was another scrub, with was a mixture of yogurt, coffee grinds and coconut oil. She said that she thought it was great that you can use stuff from your kitchen as beauty products. All of these recipes are in the book.
