Denzel Washington is going to be on the show. Watching Denzel talk is oddly fascinating. He has such a booming presence as an actor. He thunders. He roars. But then in real life, as an ordinary person, he seems absolutely affable. Obviously, this is what common sense would lead you to expect, but for some reason it’s wonderfully jarring to hear the leading actor from Training Day talk about how much he loves his mother.

Speaking of which, his mother will be a topic of conversation. After Ellen asks Denzel what it was like to receive his first oscar, he tells her how he brought his mother to the award ceremony and the goofy shenanigans that ensued.

Before he goes, Denzel will also tell Ellen about his most recent film, Safe House. The film follows the Tobin Frost, an ex-CIA agent turned international criminal who’s played by Denzel. Tobin comes into possession of an important file from rogue MI6 agent and is taken to a CIA safe house in South Africa. Ryan Reynolds plays Matt Weston, the low level agent who helps guard the house. After mercenaries attack the house and kill several agents, Matt and Tobin are forced to run.

Denzel will tell Ellen what it was like to film the movie, making a point to talk to Ellen about what made him crazy enough to agree to doing a very realistic torture scene.
