Ellen: American Idol’s Colton Dixon
There’s a shared camaraderie among reality show viewers, who instantly bond over their favorites. After years of watching a favorite show, you have a feel for it and think you know what to expect. That’s why Ellen DeGeneres and countless other American Idol fans were shocked to see Colton Dixon eliminated from the competition last week.
Ellen recalled that Colton Dixon also competed on the show last year and was cut before the Top 24. He first appeared on Ellen back then, in March 2011. “I was so happy to see that you were on this year, and you were a front runner, and I thought you were going to do well,” Ellen said. “Were you shocked like I was?”
Ellen: Colton Dixon Shocking Elimination
Colton Dixon admitted he was surprised about the results, since he’d never been in the bottom of the results. But he said his fellow contestants had a great week of performances, so he had a feeling was in the bottom three.
Ellen recapped that the judges used their save on another contestant, Jessica, leaving everyone else in jeopardy. “We were completely shocked that Jessica was in the bottom,” Colton Dixon said of the voting results. “But I’d much rather go out having America shocked,” he said of the reaction.
But Ellen expects Colton can now rally his fans, who will be watching to see what’s next for the performer. “It was a completely new game this year,” Colton said, saying he had a better sense of how to navigate the competition after his prior experience.
Ellen: Schyler Dixon Idol Update
He also had the chance to compete with his sister, Schyler, this year. Ellen believes that Schyler should take another shot next year and try to get on the show again.
Schyler and the siblings’ mother were in the audience. Schyler said she isn’t sure what the future holds for her, and the process can be extremely stressful. “I’m just going to see where God takes me, and if it’s to Idol again, great,” she said.
Ellen: Colton Dixon “Piano Man” Performance
Colton Dixon performed the Billy Joel classic “Piano Man” for Ellen and the audience on today’s show. I haven’t been keeping up with American Idol this year, but if this is who they eliminated, I can only assume the remaining contestants are very good.
