Ellen: Kat Graham “Put Your Graffiti on Me”
Ellen welcomed actress and pop singer Kat Graham on the show to perform her hit song “Put Your Graffiti on Me.” The song and the performance were underwhelming, to put it delicately.
“In my scout troop, everyone’s welcome,” Kat said at the beginning of the microphone and held up three fingers as a salute.
Ellen: Kat Graham Review
She and all of her dancers were wearing mock girl scout uniforms. They were made to look like the uniforms, but were tailored to be more revealing and sexy.
The song was so drab and hackneyed. It was no different than any other bad, hypersexual pop song. In fact, the chorus was her just repeating “Put your graffiti on me!” over and over again to the bitter point of mindless redundancy and then repeating “tag me” over and over again. The tune, the melody, everything was so sloppy. Why do people buy into this? Why is this popular music?
Ellen: Kat Graham Dancing
The dancing was decent, but Ellen has had so many great dance acts on the show recently that it was hard to be impressed even by that aspect of Kat Graham‘s performance. Her backup dancers seemed to be pretty good, but she seemed sloppy.
To her credit, she was singing at the same time as she was dancing. That must be exhausting. But still, even the choreography was questionable. At one point she and her dancers simply leaned their heads forward and shook their pony tails around in circles. That’s a cool move to pull when you’re dancing for fun, but in the context of a choreographed dance?
Ellen: Kat Graham The Vampire Diaries
Kat is best known for her role in The Vampire Diaries and “Graffiti” is her first release under record label A&M Octone. Hopefully her music will progress as she gets used to the label. She needs a more unique voice and style, because this song sounds like any other candied pop song.
