Ellen DeGeneres said Carly Rae Jepsen went from obscurity to a top 10 hit in just two months, thanks to the efforts of teen megastar Justin Bieber.

He surprised Ellen’s audience by walking onset to introduce the artist he discovered. Carly Rae Jepsen performed her hit song “Call Me Maybe.”

Carly Rae Jepsen was confident and poised in her United States TV debut. She and Justin Bieber sat down with Ellen after her performance.

Justin Bieber said this is the first artist he has discovered. He heard her on the radio in Canada and was impressed with her talent and range. Carly explained that she had been signed in Canada, but didn’t know how to branch out internationally.

“Then one miraculous day, Justin called,” she said. “At the time, I was touring Canada in a soccer mom van with my band.”

Ellen predicted that big things were ahead for Carly, and if her debut performance was any indication, Ellen is right about that.

Carly Rae Jepsen rose to fame as a contestant on the now-defunct reality competition Canadian Idol, featuring the musical talents of our northern neighbors. Since placing third in the competition in 2007, she has been touring and performing for fans throughout Canada, and is now preparing to break into the US music scene.

The last time Justin Bieber was on Ellen’s show was for his birthday celebration. At the time, he couldn’t say much about his new single, “Boyfriend,” which didn’t stop Ellen from guessing what it might sound like.

She compared a video of her prediction from earlier this month to a 15-second clip of the song, which is being released on March 26 2012. Ellen said she thought her version sounded just like the finished single, but I’m not so sure.
