“Boy, are they going to be disappointed,” he chuckled.

Ellen asked how his recent 50th birthday party went. Carell said it was a complete surprise. He thought he was going out for dinner with his wife and found 150 friends at the restaurant waiting for him. Even his kids were excellent at lying. Or else he’s just bad at paying attention, Ellen guessed.

Ellen: Steve Carell Returning To The Office?

Steve Carell is not coming back for the end of The OfficeHe said it just doesn’t make sense in his character arc.

“I don’t like those people,” he joked. He also said that now a news source is going to run the story. Hey, Burt Wonderstone, I don’t tell you how to do your job.

In all seriousness, the cast of The Office often jokes that they hate each other. Mindy Kaling and Rainn Wilson say all the time that they hate each other. I feel like “hate” on The Office is really code for “love until the end of time.”

Ellen: The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

In his new film Carell plays Burt Wonderstone, an old school magician with tired tricks. He had wild hair, make up and costumes.

“I look like a complete fool,” Carell said.

It was so drastic a change that he could walk around Las Vegas and be completely unnoticed.

Jim Carrey plays his rival magician that is into stunts. Carell said he and Steve Buscemi did some of the stunts, including being suspended over the Vegas strip in a plexi-glass box. He said it was pretty scary to shoot.

The coolest part of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is that David Copperfield actually did magic tricks in the film using Carell and Buscemi. Carell had to sign a confidentiality agreement stating that he wouldn’t spill the secrets to the tricks.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone comes out Friday March 15.
