Ellen: President Bill Clinton Vegan

Though it seems to be more common lately, it’s not every day that you see a president on daytime TV. That’s why it’s a big deal for America’s 42nd president, Bill Clinton, to catch up with Ellen DeGeneres.

Ellen and President Clinton also talked about Osama Bin Laden and the Global Challenge. It’s been six years since his last Ellen appearance, but this was his first visit to Ellen’s LA studio. She asked how he maintains his stately looks, revealing that he has gone vegan.

“Particularly if you’re older when you start this, first it’s just a good thing to do. It’ll be healthier for you, and you put less stress on your cardiovascular system,” President Bill Clinton said. He noted that you can still overdo it on certain foods, so you still have to watch your sugar intake.

But it sounds like he’s confident about joining Ellen in support of Vegan Diets. “This is the third week in a row where I will weigh less than I did the day I finished high school,” he said.

Ellen: Bill Clinton on Secretary of State Hillary

Since their last chat, Bill Clinton’s wife, former First Lady Hillary Clinton, took on a tough job as Secretary of State. He said she is of course traveling quite a bit for the job, but they try to spend weekends together when possible.

“We were together Friday night, and then she had to go to China,” Bill Clinton said. He said he can’t believe her stamina for keeping up with a demanding travel schedule that takes her all over the world.

Ellen said she and Bill seem to share the ability to gain energy from talking to people.

Ellen: Hillary Clinton Diplomacy

“I’m really proud of her, and I think the one thing that she’s been able to add to our diplomatic arsenal is reminding people everywhere that you have to include women and girls in every country’s future. Otherwise, your country’s never going to rise,” he said. “And secondly, she focuses on projects that actually help ordinary people.”

He mentioned her work to help indigent people make a living, which she does in her spare moments during her diplomatic travels. Maybe her next act after Secretary of State can be to focus some of that real people energy back here in America. I’m sure there are some local communities that would be grateful for that same type of help.

“Making a world with more partners and fewer enemies should be a part of every administration’s foreign policy,” Bill Clinton said.

Ellen: Bill Clinton Misses Driving

If you skyrocketed into the spotlight, what ordinary activities do you think you would miss? That’s what Ellen asked Bill Clinton, who said he misses driving the most of anything he used to get to do.

He said to be able to drive around town, he’d have to give up Secret Service protection for life. He said he at least tries to get some driving in on the golf course by commanding control of the golf cart.

Ellen suggested that she and President Clinton take a road trip sometime, which sounds like a great plan as long as she takes a camera crew along for the ride.
