Maya Rudolph welcomed us back from the break, horning in on Ellen DeGeneres’s hosting territory. But the hostess was gracious and complimented Maya’s delivery and poise. I guess Ellen’s not worried about being overtaken by Maya in a talk show battle; nor should she be.

Maya Rudolph OldBooth iPhone App Review

Earlier, Ellen DeGeneres Reviewed Draw Something, the popular mobile game. Maya Rudolph said she got hooked on an iPhone app called OldBooth. You can blame Melissa McCarthy for turning her on to this.

“It’s got a bunch of old high school yearbook kind of photos, but you can superimpose your face or anyone else’s face in them,” she said. “The amount of tears that came out of people’s faces and snot that flew out of people’s noses. It is the dumbest and most wonderful, fun app.”

She even brought Ellen some example photos, featuring her face in forgotten photo styles of the ‘60s through the ‘90s. From afros to beehives and everything in between, this does look like a ridiculous but entertaining app.

Ellen showed off her own batch of photos, featuring producer Andy, DJ Tony, and herself.

Ellen: Maya Rudolph Impersonations

Ellen played a version of her Celebrities game with Maya Rudolph. Maya was supposed to sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” in the style of the celebrities Ellen held up on flash cards. Ellen was supposed to guess who the stars were based on Maya’s impressions.

Given her many years of experience in comedy and on Saturday Night Live, Maya had a lot of good impression skills to draw from. Here are the celebrities from today’s challenge.

  • Nicki Minaj (Maya mocked Nicki’s unpredictable vocal range)
  • Rihanna (despite all the eh-eh-ehs, Ellen couldn’t come up with this one)
  • Gwen Stefani (Maya Rudolph has a great Gwen Stefani baby voice)

Ellen DeGeneres mentioned that the season finale of Maya Rudolph’s sitcom, Up All Night, is Thursday April 12 2012. The show has been on Thursdays this spring after starting out last fall on Wednesday nights.
