Lady Antebellum On Ellen
Ellen interviewed Lady Antebellum after they performed their hit song, “Just A Kiss.”
Ellen: Lady Antebellum “Just A Kiss” Performance
Lady Antebellum stopped by Ellen to perform their new song “Just A Kiss” from their hit album Own The Night.
Before I review their performance, I have to admit, I do not understand modern country music. The music has departed from most of its fundamentals and is now basically soft rock and alternative pop sung with a country drawl. It baffles me because I don’t understand how the country music scene came to this from Johnny Cash or Merle Haggard. To put it in simple classic country terms, I can’t help but think when I watch modern country acts, “Are you sure Hank done it that way?”
“Just A Kiss” was no different for me. I didn’t get it at all. The seemed vapid and poorly conceived.
The first thing that really rubbed me wrong was the drum machine that was playing throughout most of the song. Really? A drum machine in a country song? C’mon.
The lyrics were boring. Typical uninspired “I miss you so much” lyrics. The singers had no stage presence at all. Their antics were transparent. They stood apart from each other, melodramatically gesticulating as though they were lovers.
The one thing that was kind of cool was the lead guitar. Again, his parts didn’t make sense from a country standpoint. But they were cool. He did some relatively inventive textural techniques that added to the song.
Ellen Lady Antebellum Interview
After they were done performing their hit song “Just A Kiss,” the three primary members of Lady Antebellum, David, Charles, and Hillary sat down to chat with Ellen.
Ellen: Lady Antebellum Grammy Awards
Ellen mentioned that the last time Lady Antebellum was on the show, they had been nominated for six Grammy Awards and had won five.
“Looking back on it, it doesn’t seem real,” Hillary said. “It got to the point that we were so shell shocked.”
Ellen: Hillary Scott Engaged
Hillary told Ellen about how she recently became engaged to long time boyfriend Chris Tyrrell.
“We were out in a lake about an hour and a half outside of Nashville,” she said.
Hillary said that Chris gave her several notebooks filled with love letters that he had written for her.
Ellen asked David and Charles what they thought of Chris and Charles had nothing but nice things to say.
“He is honestly one of the nicest guys,” Charles said. “He’s amazing. Out of all the people in the past that Hillary has dated, this is the one that I knew from the first couple weeks that they were going to get married.”
