By now, Kellie Pickler is certainly a familiar face; the young, bubbly country singer was a contestant on the fifth season of American Idol, finishing in sixth place. However, as of late, Kellie may be looking a bit different than how we usually see her: her head is completely shaved! She recently made headlines when she revealed that she had ditched her locks in support of a good friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Kelly Pickler: Why She Shaved Her Head

Kellie explained her decision to Ellen, and revealed more about her cancer-stricken friend, Summer. When Kelly’s grandmother passed away (also from cancer), family friends Summer and her mom, Carolyn, really took Kellie under their wing. Kellie referred to Carolyn as “a second mom,” and loves and appreciates the entire family.

This June, Summer was diagnosed with breast cancer, and recently began chemotherapy treatments. Since Summer is like “a big sister” to Kellie, she decided to shave her head in an act of solidarity. Now, both women have shaved heads, and the press is referring to them as “cancer buddies.”

Kellie said that you when someone you love is diagnosed with cancer, “you don’t want them to walk through the valley alone.” She is also very optimistic about Summer’s recovery, since she is a very strong woman, and continues to hope for the best.

Ellen: Ellen Shaves Kellie Pickler’s Head

Since Kellie’s head is already shaved, Ellen figured, why not just put her initials in there!? Kellie probably thought Ellen was kidding, but when she whipped out the electric razor, it was clear that Ellen meant business! Instead of “E.G,” Kelly ended up with something that looked like “E.V.” Kellie was a good sport who clearly cares a lot about cancer awareness.

Breast cancer is also a cause near and dear to Ellen’s heart, so Kellie thanked her for all that she has done. In a gesture of thanks, Kellie’s organization donated $10,000 to Ellen For The Cure.
