Ellen: Jason Segel Muppet Oscar
Not only did Jason Segel bring The Muppets back into the pop culture zeitgeist, he also earned them a place in history, as he explained to Ellen DeGeneres.
“I could be wrong, but I think it’s the first Muppet Oscar of all time,” he said of the movie’s win for an original song. With a history of songs like “It’s Not Easy Being Green” and “The Rainbow Connection,” Jason said he was shocked but honored to be a winner.
Though performed in the movie by Jason’s character and Muppet Walt, the song “Man or Muppet” was written by Bret McKenzie from Flight of the Conchords.
Jason Segel Oscars Wardrobe Malfunction
Jason said he felt like he didn’t belong at the “Cool Kids’ Party” of the Oscars. He shared that he experienced a wardrobe malfunction during the Oscar ceremony, when his “tuxedo just self destructed. …I cannot emphasize enough, it’s not that it was tight.”
He explained that he made it through the Red Carpet, but as he sat down to enjoy the show, buttons began to “fall off my tux, until my shirt is held together by my bowtie and that it’s tucked in,” he explained.
As the ceremony went on, he stood up to applaud for one of the honorees, and he ripped his pants as he sat back down. That sounds like a lot to deal with during any event, much less on Oscar night.
Jason Segel YouTube Fan
Ellen shared the story of a fan who connected with him via YouTube and Twitter. Chelsea Gill wrote an original song to get Jason Segel to hang out with her.
In response, Jason flew to Chicago to meet her, despite the fact that his handlers were skeptical about her intentions. These are always fun stories, but these creative approaches only really work once, so probably no one else should write a song about wanting to be friends with Jason Segel.
