Ellen: Gabrielle Union & Dwyane Wade

Gabrielle Union is part of a huge ensemble cast in the upcoming romantic comedy Think Like A Man. She sat down with Ellen DeGeneres to catch up after several years away from the show.

She is dating basketball star Dwyane Wade, who plays for the Miami Heat. Gabrielle subscribes to the Vision Board philosophy of visualizing the things you want to manifest in your life, though she said she wasn’t specific enough, and she ended up with a younger man.

Gabrielle said that Dwyane Wade didn’t know who Earth Wind and Fire was when they started dating. He wouldn’t do too well with Ellen’s daily Dance Songs, I’m guessing, though Gabrielle said he’s 30 years old; I’m thinking he doesn’t have an excuse for his scant musical knowledge.

Overall, Gabrielle said the relationship is great. “I was very specific about being divorced, since I was married the last time I was here,” she reminded Ellen. “I was very specific about my vision board, and he is everything. I just left off the age.”

Ellen: Gabrielle Union Basketball Fan

Gabrielle likes to go to Dwyane Wade’s games, and she becomes impassioned in the stands, clapping and making faces. Ellen even dug up some shots of her reacting from her seat. She even has an email correspondence with the coach, and they tag team to motivate Dwyane. She said that she gets it from her father, whom she called “the Bobby Knight of youth basketball coaches.”

To help her out on the court, Ellen gifted Gabrielle with a glittery, sparkling megaphone. I’m sure Dwyane and his teammates will love that.

Ellen: Gabrielle Union Think Like A Man

Gabrielle’s new movie, Think Like A Man, is based on a book by Steve Harvey. She said that going through a divorce taught her a lot about relationships, like the importance of asking for what you want and need.

It helped her understand a lot of the philosophies that are outlined in the book and the movie, which she said often boils down to common sense. One lesson she learned was that it’s OK to ask your partner to come home if that’s what you want them to do. It seems basic, but we’ve all been in relationships where communication is more difficult than it needs to be.

Think Like A Man opens in theaters April 20 2012.

Ellen: Gabrielle Union Weave & Airport Security

Gabrielle said she has trouble going through airport security. “My hair is on the watch list,” she said. Her so-called Power Weave got flagged by the body scanners, and they had to pat her head down.

Something about the density of her weave makes the scanner think it could be concealing something. Ellen patted Gabrielle’s head to see for herself and confirmed that it seemed like a good potential hiding place. I don’t know about that; it’s no Marge Simpson hair.

Gabrielle wondered why, if it’s a matter of national security, they pet her hair instead of digging in to search for weapons. I think she’s implying that they just want to touch her hair, which is undeniably beautiful.

Ellen: Gabrielle Union Dance Dare

Ellen showed a quick clip of Gabrielle Union’s Dance Dare, taped at a press event for BET. She got behind her manager while he carried on a conversation, oblivious to her moves.
