Ellen Backstage At Taylor Swift Concert
Ellen got to go backstage at Taylor Swift’s concert at the Staple Center in Los Angeles. The entire time she was there, she played her comical alter ego, the socially stunted and self involved celebrity. It was pretty funny. She looked at the camera and said, “I’m here because my protege is performing.” Then she started walking around the backstage area shouting Taylor’s name to try to find her.
When Ellen found Taylor’s room, she told Taylor that she should do some vocal exercises. First they did the standard exercise in which the singer says “me” repeatedly while ascending in pitch. Each subsequent vocal exercise was the same, just using a different word. First they did “you,” then “them,” and last they did “those.” Each one sounded more silly than the last.
“You’re a great teacher,” Taylor said and Ellen, playing her alter ego, acted like she was already aware of that.
Ellen: What’s On Taylor Swift’s Rider?
Ellen asked Taylor what she had on her rider. A rider consists of items that a performer requests from the venue. Taylor said all she had was water.
Ellen chided Taylor for her modest rider, saying that people won’t take her seriously if she doesn’t have an overly demanding rider. Ellen said that once she had made it as a popular comedian, she was even putting a hammock on her rider.
Again, Ellen didn’t actually mean anything she was saying. She was just playing her alter ego.
Ellen & Taylor Swift Rehearse Jason Mraz “I’m Yours”
When Ellen and Taylor left the dressing room and started making their way to the stage, Ellen shouted, “Out of the way everyone! America’s sweetheart is coming through! And Taylor Swift is with me!”
Once they got to the stage, Ellen gestured to the empty arena and said, “Not a good turn out.”
Taylor sang the song to a recorded back track while Ellen ran around grabbing all sorts of random instruments and playing them off beat. She played a triangle, a washboard, clash cymbals, and an accordion.
After the rehearsal, Ellen pretended as though she were the focal point of the performance and said, “Wonderful you guys!” Then she turned to Taylor and said, “My only note to you is to play more instruments. Did you see what I was doing? Did you see how entertaining that was?”
