To facilitate her giving away her tickets to the Grammys, Ellen decided to play a trivia game in which two contestants were hung from a wall by a rope. Every time one of them got a question wrong, a lever would be pulled, slackening the rope and she would fall a little closer to the ground. If she got enough questions wrong, she would hit the ground and lose.

Host of this year’s Grammy Awards, LL Cool J, walked out onstage to help Ellen with the contest.

Ellen: Six Grammy Nominations For Adele 21

Although the questions were interdisciplinary, they were all themed around the Grammys.

The first question, inspired by Adele’s album 21, having been nominated for six Grammys, was what six times 21 is.

The young woman who got the question seemed frustrated as she did mental math aloud.

“I go to college!” she said reassuringly. Nevertheless, she guessed wrong.

Ellen: Maroon 5 “Moves Like Jagger”

The second question was inspired by Maroon 5’s hit song “Moves Like Jagger” from their album Hands All Over.

“What band is Mick Jagger the lead singer of?” Ellen asked.

The contestant didn’t know and her rope was slackened.

Ellen: Coldplay ‘Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall’

The next question was, “In what two countries can you see Niagra Falls?” It was inspired by Coldplay’s “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall” from their album Mylo Xyloto.

Thankfully, the contestant who had this question guessed correctly.

Ellen: Bruno Mars

The next question was inspired by Bruno Mars. What are the names of the planets of our solar system, other than Mars?

The contestant who got this question guessed most of them but missed the last couple.

Ellen: Alexander Graham Bell

One contestant didn’t even know who invented the telephone. First, she guessed Benjamin Franklin. Then, after LL Cool J gave her a second chance, all she could guess was “Bell.” Granted, that was the last name of the inventor, but it was still somewhat disenchanting that she couldn’t remember Alexander Graham Bell.

Ellen: Grammy Ticket Winners

Despite that one contestant didn’t suck quite as much as the other, Ellen gave both contestants tickets to the Grammy Awards.

Both contestants started freaking out like high school girls and hugging LL Cool J.

Ellen: Sol Republic Headphone Giveaway

Then Ellen gave away a pair of Sol Republic headphones to each member of her audience. She said the headphones were indestructible and interchangeable.
