Dr. Phil: Healing Process
Dr. Phil told Debra that before she can think about healing, she needs to get out of the emotional tailspin she is in. He called the language she was using to describe the situation as “catastrophic.” Though he was not trivializing what happened, this is not the end of her life. What Debra needs is the help to get her out of the depressed pit she is in. The healing can not begin until she gets out of the funk she is in.
Dr. Phil thinks that Henry is very confused. He is lashing out in anger, which Dr. Phil sees as a sign of hurt, fear, and frustration. Dr. Phil said that Henry, too, will be offered help to help him get past the issues he is having in coming to terms with what has happened.
Dr. Phil: Fixing Henry And Debra’s Relationship
…is not going to happen any time soon. The only way to fix a relationship that has been damaged to this extent is for Henry and Debra to not even enter into talks of any sort about the relationship. They need time apart to meditate on what has happened. Neither has a grip on where they are right now, and they need to establish that before they can fix anything in their surroundings.
Dr. Phil: Fixing The Family
Much like the relationship, fixing a family that has had its entire platform of trust fall out from underneath of them needs time to heal. Dr. Phil thinks that, once the therapy starts for Henry and Debra separately, a lot of things will come into focus really fast. He does not know that the family will thrive as a unit ever again, but they will all have to get past some pain and betrayal before the healing process can begin.
