Dr Phil: Siohvaughn Funches-Wade Custody Battle
Dr Phil had Siohvaughn Funches-Wade on his show to talk about the media’s perception of her and her ongoing custody battle with Miami Heat star player and her ex-husband, Dwyane Wade.
Siohvaughn and Dwyane had been together since they were 15-years-old. The got married and a year after he entered the NBA draft. Siohvaughn asked him not to, but he soon became a star player for the Miami Heat. After a series of domestic disputes, they separated in 2007.
Since the separation, Siohvaughn has been painted as violent, psycho and emotionally unstable in the public eye. She feels that she was treated with bias in court and is now going to law school to figure out how to move forward.
Dr Phil: Celebrity Status & the Media
Siohvaughn believes that Dwyane’s celebrity has corrupted him and turned the courts on his side. She experienced mistreatment in the courtroom. She said the judges were open about their admiration of Dwyane and their fan status. They knew his basketball schedule and quoted his basketball statistics.
Siohvaughn said she wanted someone who was a fan of justice, not basketball. She is going to law school and has discovered that the way she was treated was grossly biased and called it “corruption.”
She experienced the complete opposite for the bloggers. They dubbed her the “crazy baby mama” that was not concerned for her kids. She believes that Dwyane’s publicist trashed her reputation.
Dr Phil: Dwyane Gets Primary Custody
During their custody hearing a therapist came into both of their homes to decide what the visitation schedule should look like. The doctor said that they should have joint custody but Dwayne wanted one of them to have sole custody. After going back, the doctor said that Siohvaughn should have sole custody. The court ruled differently and gave sole custody to Dwyane.
They believed that Siohvaughn was guilty of parental alienation. She realized afterwards that she was just protecting her kids from things their father was doing. They went three months without seeing or hearing from him.
Dwayne also went to ESPN and told the story of how Siohvaughn kidnapped their kids. Siohvaughn told Dr. Phil that the kids were never missing, they were swimming at her house. She thinks the courts and media have hurt her chances at custody and have a completely warped perception of her.
