In his opening statement, Baez revealed to the court that Casey Anthony was abused by her father George. George told Dr. Phil in an interview that he was deeply hurt that she would say that. Her mother said Casey was crying during this trial. She was either crying because this happened or because she had to do this to her father.

Baez said there are many unique details that support Casey Anthony’s claim. He was skeptical and had her examined by multiple mental health professionals. They all came back and said she exhibited classic signs of someone who had been abused. The judge threw out the allegations later in the trial because of lack of evidence. Baez said he was just presenting the full story and it was his duty to do this.
