Dr Phil: Clueless Dad & Runaway Mom
John and Laurie’s kids are out of control, but who is to blame? John said he looks in the mirror and knows he is a good parent. He claimed he is better than most single dads, but his kids are out of control. They have zero respect for him and don’t listen to his rules. They call him “the maid” and make him clean and do things for them. Last week one of the twin boys gave John a black eye in a fight over the computer.
Dr Phil: Runaway Mom Laurie
Up until two years ago, Laurie was the primary guardian of her children. She said that when she was with them they were never violent and got straight A’s, but now that John is taking care of them things are different. The boys wanted to see what it would be like to live with John and Laurie gave him dual custody. She then picked up and moved 1,500 miles away with her boyfriend. The boys said they miss their mom and want her back to take care of them. Laurie said she speaks with them daily, but they said they never hear from her. If Laurie did have the kids, would they be better behaved?
Dr Phil: Checking Out Of Parenting
Dr Phil thinks Laurie has checked out of parenting. He thinks they gave this experiment a good enough try but it’s time that someone step up and be a parent.
Dr Phil: Money & Parenting
Laurie thinks John is delusional and wants him to get real. She said he believes money will fix every problem, but he doesn’t have a job. In fact, John had a successful business running a real estate magazine until he was indicted for tax evasion. He went to jail for six years and lost everything. He is now unable to get a job because he is a felon. He does odd jobs and makes a couple hundred dollars a week. John wrote a memoir but it hasn’t been published. He said his kids come before his money.
Laurie worked full time when she had the boys and still pays for their expenses. She’s let the experiment of living with John run it’s course, but now it’s time for them both to get real.
