Dr Phil: Public Humiliation Punishment?
Dr Phil has been talking with Ryan about his meddling mother, who hates his fiancee. Ryan’s mother said that Ryan treats his daughter like a slave and not the seven-year-old that she is. His mother said Ryan makes his daughter clean the house top to bottom for punishment. Ryan threw water on his daughter at a soccer game and pulled her ponytail. Afterward, Gayle told Ryan he was a horrible parent and needed therapy. She said if things don’t change, she will call protective services on Ryan and Hannah.
For Ryan and Hannah these punishments are not that horrible. Hannah said that when they punished the child with chores, she started to like cleaning. Ryan forced his daughter to run laps at cheerleading practice because she got in trouble at school. He said he did throw water on her, but only to wake her up in the game.
Dr Phil: Exercise Punishments For Kids
Rather than spanking, Ryan makes his daughter exercise. Hannah said Ryan’s daughter is built like her mother and not a thin child. They thought the exercise was a good thing for her.
Dr Phil said he grew up in an era where coaches were horrible people. The public humiliation was wrong then and it’s wrong now. He said Ryan isn’t a bad parent, but he needs to stop these types of punishment. Making his child exercise will make her associate bad things with working out. This could have lasting damage to her self-esteem and how she looks at her body. Research proves that this exercise as punishment is a horrible thing.
Dr Phil: Gayle’s Problem
Gayle’s accusations only make this worse for her. She doesn’t want to be seen as a villain or a horrible person. It deserves to be said that she is standing up for her values and beliefs. Her hatred is causing her to cloud her judgement. Can Dr. Phil help her move past her hatred so that she doesn’t lose her family?
