Dr Phil: Gayle’s In-Laws

Dr Phil was caught in the middle of a battle between Ryan’s parents vs fiancee. He thinks his parents have treated Hannah horribly. When his parents first got married, his mother was treated horribly by her in-laws. He doesn’t understand why they haven’t learned from the past.

Gayle’s mother-in-law treated her horribly and now she is repeating the cycle with Hannah.

Gary, Ryan’s father, said that he wants to have a relationship with his son and with Hannah. Ryan admitted that he was wrong to keep his ex from his parents and promised they could all get along and have a family. This still isn’t enough for Gayle. She said she will not have a relationship with Hannah because she believes it’s wrong and goes against God.

Dr Phil believes that Gayle is telling herself a “Why Lie.” This is that Hannah changed her son and that if Hannah went away their family would be OK again. Gayle’s “Why Lie” covers up her real anger. The real reason she is mad stems back to how she was treated badly by her in-laws. She has a need to create a perfect family for herself and her granddaughter or she has failed at life. Gayle vehemently denied this and said that Dr. Phil is wrong.

Dr Phil: Road Trip Challenge

Dr. Phil challenged Gayle and Hannah to take a 1,000 mile trip together. For every mile they travel, he will give them $10. The $10,000 can go towards anything. Hannah and Ryan’s wedding, a charity or split between the two women. He believes that putting them on this trip will get them to know each other.

Hannah agreed right away, but Gayle outright refused. She said that Dr. Phil tricked her into this and made her seem even more the bad guy. Dr. Phil agreed to let her take her husband and Gayle agreed reluctantly. It’s still unclear whether Gayle will follow through, but Dr. Phil isn’t giving up on this family.
