Dr. Phil: Jennifer Does Not Think Fellowship Of The Martyrs Is A Cult
Ed’s wife, Jennifer, does not agree with Ed. She does not think that Fellowship Of The Martyrs (FOTM) is a cult at all. She says Doug Perry never tells them what to do. He only tells them they should pray to God. She believes wholeheartedly that God told her to take off her wedding ring and that Doug Perry is a prophet.
After Jennifer broke the news to Ed that their marriage was over, she says that James became violent, telling her that she is his wife and that she will submit to him. He said that God would never tell her to divorce her husband, that it was a demon that told her to do those things. When Jennifer woke the morning after the outburst to find her children missing, she became worried and thought he was holding their children for ransom to make her come back.
Jennifer has no desire to re-engage in a romantic relationship with James, and now has a relationship with Doug and has a three-week old baby with him.
Dr. Phil: Jennifer Tells James He Needs To Take Responsibility
Jennifer says that there were problems in her and James’ marriage before they ever went down to FOTM’s headquarters, and that he is just mad because he feels duped out of his marriage. She thinks that he is trying to blame everyone—her, the ministry, and Doug—but himself for how his marriage and his life turned out. She is also very angry with James because he never apologized for taking off with their children in the middle of the night.
Jennifer said that she didn’t every try to contact the kids when they were away with James because she didn’t want to have to explain the dire situation their marriage was in, thinking that it would be better for them if they just had a two-month vacation with their father.
