Dr Oz & Kirstie Alley: Yo-Yo Diet Heart Health Risks

Dr. Oz: Yo-Yo Dieting

Dr. Oz called Kirstie Alley over to a table with two clothes laying over something round. He made Alley put on the famous purple gloves and explained to her that she has been doing a yo-yo diet for a long time. She has been consistently losing considerable amounts of weight and then putting the weight back on, only to lose much more weight again soon after. It is a viscous cycle that Dr. Oz said is very unhealthy. And that is why he made her put on the purple gloves.

Dr. Oz: Yo-Yo Diet Heart Damage

Dr. Oz discusses the dangers of yo-yo dieting with Kirstie Alley and makes her hold a dead human heart.

Dr. Oz took the cloth off one of the round objects and a dead, human heart was laying under cloth. The first heart he showed Alley looked small and, I guess, normal. I haven’t seen to many dead hearts. But he said it looked normal and healthy, except for the dead part, so I believe him.

Dr. Oz then told Alley that the next heart he was going to show her is what a heart can look like after someone has been yo-yo dieting for a long time. He lifted up the next cloth and revealed another heart, similar in structure and form but three times the size of the healthy heart. As Alley described it, “it looks like a pigeon came apart when it fell off a building.”

Dr Oz: Healthy Vs Fatty Heart

Alley held both the hearts in different hands and said the larger one was much heavier and many of the muscles were far more dense than the smaller heart. Alley asked Dr. Oz if her heart might look like the large one, but he said she seemed healthy enough now, but wanted her to see what yo-yo dieting can do if she keeps dieting the wrong way.

Right before the commercial break Alley said she was never going back to being fat again. I’ve heard her say it before, a long time ago on the Oprah show, and she got fat again. Do you think she will stay skinny this time? Let us know in the comments section. Personally, I hope so. But I am a bit skeptical.

About the author

After graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Journalism and Anthropology, I managed a pizza place for a year, while freelancing for various newspapers in the area. Working every weekend in sauna like conditions, never being able to take a day off and being covered in flour is something I will not miss. I hope Recapo has air conditioning.
