Dr Oz: Ayurvedic Cleanses for Your Dosha Type
Body type might be the key to curing ailments, Dr Oz said, citing traditional cultural practices through the centuries. That’s the principle of the Ayurvedic Juice Cleanse.
Dr Kulreet Chaudhary, a neurologist and Ayurvedic practitioner, was back with Dr Oz to help explain which aspect of the cleanse is right for you. What’s your Dosha? Learn more about the Ayurvedic Body Types to figure out which fits you best.
Kapha Body Type (Earth)
- Heavy Build
- Slow Digestion
- Prone To Weight Gain
Pitta Body Type (Fire)
- Warm Body Temperature
- Goal Oriented
- Prone To Skin Rashes
Vata Body Type (Air)
- Prone To Brain Fog
Though you might be in the same environment as someone else, the way that your own body deals with toxins could be very different. Dr Oz and Dr Chaudhary shared some Ayurvedic cleanses that could help someone from each of the types achieve a particular health goal.
Dr Oz: Kapha Juice Cleanse Recipe
Dr Chaudhary said these ideas are targeted to the effective ingredients for each body type on a biochemical level. For a Kapha, slow digestion can mean accumulating toxins in the body. The taste tester, who had never tried cabbage, thought this drink was delicious!
“You’re getting nutrients that you don’t normally include into your diet,” Dr Chaudhary said.
- 1/2 medium Red Cabbage
- 1/2 Lemon
- 2 Apples
- Blend ingredients and drink.
Dr Oz: Pitta Juice Cleanse Drink Recipe
A Pitta body type can put on water weight, Dr Chaudhary told Dr Oz, saying this drink is her favorite. I do like each of these ingredients. Dr Oz said the Kapha and Pitta drinks feel light as you drink them.
- 3 cups diced Watermelon
- 1 English Cucumber
- pinch of Cinnamon
- Juice or blend ingredients and serve.
Dr Oz: Vata Cleanse Smoothie Recipe
Losing weight as a Vata could actually make health problems worse. That’s why Dr Chaudhary’s drink for this type goes in the other direction. Cooking the sweet potatoes for this drink will help your body absorb more of the nutrients.
- 1 cup Sweet Potatoes
- 1/2 Avocado
- 10 oz Almond Milk
- 1 tsp grated Ginger
- Cook the sweet potatoes.
- Mix with the remaining ingredients into a smoothie.
Dr Oz: How Long To Do the Ayurvedic Cleanse
Dr Chaudhary said to ease your way into cleanses. Choose one meal per day, preferably dinner, to replace with the cleanse drink for your body type. “Nighttime is the most efficient time for your body to detoxify,” she said. There is an exception: Vata body types should not do the cleanse for more than seven consecutive days.
