Do you have trouble falling asleep at night? I know I suffer from this at least once a week. That’s why Dr Oz revealed some sleep remedies that can hopefully help the insomniacs among us rest a little easier.
Mary was in the audience, and she complained to Dr Oz that she is restless when she gets in bed at night. She will lie there awake, and the longer she’s in bed, the more she stresses out about not being able to fall asleep. The next day, she has trouble getting out of bed and making it through the day.
Dr Oz: Sleep Feng Shui
Feng Shui is the art of space arrangement to promote positive energy. This can affect your mood and even your sleep. That’s why you may want to reconsider the layout of your bedroom in overcoming your sleep struggles.
Mary said her bed is against a wall, next to a window. But Dr Oz said this is not ideal, because putting your bed against a wall can make you feel backed up. Also, having the bed near a window drains good energy from the room.
Ideally, the bed should have a full view of your door. But you don’t want your feet pointing toward the doorway. This is what the Chinese call “death position.”
This is all well and good, but how big are people’s bedrooms? Where are you supposed to put your bed to satisfy all these conflicting requirements?
Dr Oz: Snake Plant Sleep Remedy
The Snake Plant, also known as Mother In Law’s Tongue, may have an unappealing name, but it is supposed to have amazing health benefits. Dr Oz said it absorbs toxins from our bodies, while putting out more oxygen into the room. That can help you breathe easier and sleep better.
Dr Oz: Sleep Mantras
If you are struggling to fall asleep, there is something useful you can do while lying awake. Think of a calming mantra, repeating it over and over in your head or out loud. It could be a neutral word such as peace, calm, or relax (what about sleep?). Or you can think of something more personal and specific, such as a child’s name.
Repeating a mantra can be soothing and calming. Plus, it doesn’t cost anything, you don’t have to move any furniture, and you don’t need to water it.
Doctor Oz: Grape Skin Powder Sleep Smoothie Recipe
Another sleep remedy you could try is a tasty smoothie as a bedtime snack. Dr Oz called Grape Skin a powerful antioxidant, and he suggested whipping up this smoothie about two hours before you hit the hay.
- 1 tablespoon Grape Skin Powder
- 1.5 cups Frozen Strawberries
- 1 cup Seltzer
- 1 ½ Bananas
- Ice Cubes
Blend these ingredients together and enjoy a healthy treat to begin powering down at night.
