Dr Oz: Bread Pudding Recipe for Sleep

If you’re still struggling to get a good night’s sleep, maybe dessert is the answer. Pastry Chef Gale Gand showed off a Bread Pudding recipe that is sure to at least satisfy your sweet tooth, if not calm you down before bed.

Dr Oz: Sleep Bread Pudding

Learn to make a bread pudding recipe that can have you floating off to dreamland.

The recipe uses calming Chamomile. Plus, Apricots contain Tryptophan, the same chemical found in Thanksgiving turkey that makes you want to take a nap.

These ingredients might make it easier for you to fall asleep at night. If nothing else, you’ll at least get a tasty dessert recipe.

Dr Oz: Gale Gand’s Date Bread Pudding Recipe

Ingredients – Date Bread Pudding

  • 3-4 slices Bread
  • 1 cup Skim Milk
  • ¾ cup Light Cream
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 3 Eggs
  • ⅔ cup Agave Syrup
  • ⅔ cup Dates, pitted & chopped

Ingredients – Brown Sugar Cinnamon Whipped Cream

  • ½ cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon Cinnamon

Ingredients – Apricots in Chamomile Syrup

  • ½ cup Water
  • ¼ cup Honey
  • 1 bag Chamomile Tea
  • ½ cup Dried Apricots, chopped

Directions – Bread Pudding

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Cut bread into small cubes and spread it on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake bread about 10 minutes.
  4. Pour toasted bread into baking dish, mixing in dates.
  5. Heat Milk, Light Cream, and Vanilla in a pan until simmering. Remove from heat and let stand 10 minutes.
  6. Mix Eggs and Agave in a bowl, adding milk and cream mix.
  7. Pour Egg mixture over bread, and let sit one hour, or cover and chill overnight.
  8. Place baking pan inside a bigger pan and at about an inch of water to create a water bath.
  9. Bake until set, about 45 minutes.
  10. Top with Brown Sugar Whipped Cream and Apricot mixture.

Directions – Whipped Cream

  1. Whip Heavy Cream and Brown Sugar together.
  2. Once peaks begin to form, finish with Cinnamon.

Directions – Apricots

  1. Boil Water and Honey in a pan.
  2. Once boiling, add tea bag and Apricots.
  3. Simmer about three minutes, until Apricots begin to plump.
  4. Remove tea bag and chill before serving.
