Dr. Oz knows his audience wants a diet that will slim them down before summer hits so he invited a few experts on his show to go over their 21 day plan to help you slim down and burn up to 1,000 calories in an hour. The experts he brought on are the weight loss and fitness team of Billy Blanks Jr., a well known fitness instructor, and Catherine Blanks, his wife who has been performing on Broadway since she was three-years-old.

Dr. Oz talked with Billy Blanks about his 21 Day Summer Slimdown and what guidelines everyone needs to follow. He also shared his metabolism boosting drink.


Billy Blanks Jr. said he knew from a young age he wanted to work in fitness when he became older. The inspiration for being involved with fitness came from watching people transform their bodies and lives while making positive changes that directly stemmed from their workouts.

Blanks’ wife, Sharon Catherine Blanks, said being a husband/wife team has made them more relatable because so many couples start exercise plans together but it is hard to keep up with them. She said she and Billy are there to help couples get through the workout plan and make positive changes in their lifestyle.

21 Day Summer Slimdown Diet Guidelines

Dr. Oz shared the five rules of the 21 Day Summer Slimdown with his audience. He said they all need to be followed in order to be successful on the diet and lose weight while getting healthy.


Only eat foods from the fridge – Sharon Blanks clarified saying you should only eat the healthy foods in your fridge like fruits and vegetables.

Have 1 cup of broth-based soup before every meal – Billy Blanks Jr. said having soup on hand at all times is great because it makes for a healthy snack or an addition to any meal. He also suggested using vegetables that are about to go bad to make soup.

Eat all meats and complex carbs before 2 p.m. – Billy Blanks Jr. said this rule is important because you need the energy from the food to do your workouts throughout the day. Eating foods earlier gives you more time to burn off the calories.

Have three energy snacks per day: Sharon Catherine Blanks said eating snacks during the day is important but the snacks have to be healthy and full of energy. She recommended eating crisp apples with honey and dark chocolate, nuts and cheese or homemade kale chips.

Have a metabolism-boosting drink after each meal – This will give you the extra bit of burn you need to get rid of the excess weight.

  • 8 ounces water
  • 1/4 cup watermelon (a natural diuretic)
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
