But before you pack your bags for vacation, have you thought about your dietary supplement needs, and how they might be different in the warm summer weather? Dr Oz talked about Summer Bug Safety, and he shared Summertime Recipes and Sunscreen Reviews. Next, he turned his attention to the benefits of supplements like L-Carnosine, Lycopene, and Reishi Mushroom Extract.

Dr Oz: L-Carnosine Supplements & Alzheimer’s Prevention
Elizabeth was in the show’s studio audience, and like many families, she said she loves getting everyone together for weekend barbecues in the summer. The smoky flavors of the grill and the smiles and laughter of family togetherness permeate the air. But there’s something else floating around when you’re having a cookout.
L-Carnosine is an element that’s naturally released when you are grilling outdoors. It’s also available as a supplement, and the recommended dosage is 500 mg twice daily. It has many benefits, including blocking AGEs, which are associated with the development of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Dr Oz: Lycopene Supplement Skin Protection
Dr Oz already covered his Sunscreen Shopping Guide. But did you know that supplements can also help protect your skin, from the inside out? Elizabeth mentioned that her children love being outdoors in nice weather, and Dr Oz recommended giving them Lycopene supplements.
Of course, this is a natural ingredient in tomatoes and some other food products. But for a highly concentrated dose you can count on to protect your skin, you’ll want to take a daily 16 mg dose of Lycopene in a supplement form.
Lycopene works to protect the skin naturally, preventing up to 33% of damaging chemical changes to the skin, which is your body’s largest organ.
Dr Oz: Reishi Mushroom Extract Supplement Review
Since her kids, ages 15 and 5, are always outside and on the go, Elizabeth has to struggle to keep up with them sometimes. Dr Oz recommended that she try getting an energy boost from the Reishi Mushroom Extract supplement. This helps to fight inflammation while fueling the body’s natural energy stores. Dr Oz suggested a dose of 1000 mg three times a day.
