Dr Oz: Biggest Celebrity Health Stories
Celebrities are always making news, and Dr Oz invited a guest to chime in about the biggest celebrity health stories. Longtime Inside Edition anchor Deborah Norville shared her perspective. Dr Oz expressed amazement that celebrities fascinate our culture, and also that they seem to have so much to say about health and wellness.
“It’s nothing new. But I think what’s different today is there’s so many different ways to scratch that celebrity itch,” Norville said. “There’s so much information coming at people, and I think they like to feel in the know.”
Dr Oz: Bobbi Kristina Brown Health Crisis
Nearly three years after her mother Whitney Houston died under similar circumstances, Bobbi Kristina Brown was found unconscious in a bathtub in late January 2015. Rumors have swirled that her family will take her off life support. Deborah Norville called it “a terrible situation.”
As for the sources close to the family, Norville said that the family has spoken out saying they do not want to feed in to the gossip and speculation. “What we know is that they want us to pray for this young lady,” Deborah said.
According to reports, Bobbi Kristina has been in a medically induced coma for more than a month. When doctors attempted to wake her, she had seizures. She is also breathing through a tracheostomy tube instead of a breathing tube.
Dr Oz: Kendall Jenner Plastic Surgery?
Bruce Jenner has long been the subject of speculation that he is pursuing a gender transition from male to female. Meanwhile, some wonder whether his daughters Kendall and Kylie are having plastic surgery at such a young age.
Deborah Norville said that once a person turns 18, he or she can make decisions about elective surgery. Dr Oz used side-by-side photographs to question whether Kendall may have had some work done already, even though she is so young.
Dr Oz: Did Kylie Jenner Have Plastic Surgery?
Norville thought Kendall looked similar in both pictures. But when it came to 17-year-old Kylie, she had a different opinion. “I think she’s had so much done. And honestly, as a Mom…, it makes me want to cry,” Norville said.
She also speculated that this type of procedure would require parental consent. Kylie has claimed she did not have any plastic surgery. Dr Oz also got an opinion from a plastic surgeon, who observed changes to her lips, possibly via an injection.
You could also look at the middle third of Kylie’s nose, which “is narrower, more refined than when she was younger.” This could be achieved with fillers. But is it appropriate for a minor to have these types of cosmetic procedures? Dr Oz’s audience overwhelmingly voted no.
Dr Oz: Heart Disease Correlation with Mean Tweets
Dr Oz also shared some news about Heart Disease and Twitter. He shared a map from the CDC comparing the physical locations of deaths caused by Heart Disease to the concentration of negative tweets sent from those locations on the social network Twitter.
A new study matched emotional content from Twitter to regional heart disease patterns. This study even found it to be a better predictor than some other risk factors. If you are a positive person on social media, that could have heart health benefits for you!
