Dr Oz: What The Yuck Review
Have you ever been too embarrassed to ask your doctor a question about your health? A lot of people have this problem. It was one of the inspirations for today’s episode of Dr. Oz, based on the book What The Yuck? by Dr. Roshini Raj.
Dr. Raj said she wrote the book because generations of women were taught that certain subjects were off limits, even when it comes to health. She wanted to change that perception, and she set out to do so with this book.
Four women from Dr. Oz’s audience were willing to ask their sensitive questions on TV, and here is what the doctors suggested for them.
Dr Oz: Ibuprofen Diarrhea Remedy
Rosemary said that her monthly cycle is always accompanied by another unwelcome symptom: diarrhea. Dr. Raj said this happens to a lot of women, because diarrhea is caused by the same hormone responsible for menstrual cramps.
As these chemicals work their way through the digestive system, they create gas, which can lead to sudden, explosive diarrhea.
Dr. Raj recommended a 400 mg dosage of Ibuprofen every four to six hours, while symptoms persist. Another option is adding more fiber to your diet.
Dr Oz: Ingrown Facial Hair Solution
Next, Katrina talked about her ingrown facial hair. She said it’s thick and can leave bumps on her face. She also said that her mom has the same problem, which Dr. Oz said suggests a genetic issue rather than another underlying medical cause.
Dr. Raj said this is also common when people’s hair follicles become clogged. Your hair follicle has a bulb below the skin layer, and the hair strand is what pokes out and is typically shaved off. But if the follicle gets clogged, the hair will become bent below the surface, leading to a Blackhead.
The solution to this is using a moist towel to loosen the skin around the area. Then pull the skin back and use tweezers to unwind the ingrown hair. Once it’s straightened out, you will be pain free and this method shouldn’t leave behind any scarring.
Dr Oz: Simethicone Pills & Vurping
Vurping is a gross portmanteau of burping and vomiting. Another brave audience member, Kathy, said her burps are often accompanied by small amounts of vomit. She has tried changing her diet and has even lost 40 pounds on Weight Watchers. But none of this has changed her Vurping symptoms.
She did admit that acidic things such as coffee aggravate this condition. Dr Oz warned her that keeping this up could cause irreversible damage to her vocal cords and teeth. It also leads to bad breath.
To help alleviate this problem, he suggested 180 mg dosage of Simethicone tablets, taken as needed. He also said you could try cutting down on the coffee and alcohol.
Dr Oz: Rice Paper Blackheads Solution
Valerie talked about Blackheads she keeps finding underneath her breasts. Dr Oz said that Blackheads form in larger pores around oily skin. They could also be trapping bacteria in the area. She of course wants to get rid of them.
Blotting Rice Paper can help with this. Simply place it on the affected area, leaving it in place for a few minutes to absorb excess oil. You can leave it on all day if it’s really bad.
Popping the Blackhead is an option, but there is a right and wrong way to do it. Squeeze hard, even though it hurts, to ensure that you remove all the bacteria. Otherwise, bacteria could get in your bloodstream and cause an even bigger problem.
If the Blackhead is too deep for you to take care of on your own, you’ll need to see a professional to get it removed properly.
Dr Oz: Natural Pain Remedies
We all get aches and pains from time to time. Today, Dr. Oz also revealed some natural remedies he recommends for common problems.
Dr Oz: Cayenne Pepper & Apple Cider Vinegar for Joint Pain
If your joints are bothering you all the time, you can mix a teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper with Apple Cider Vinegar to create a paste. Apply it on the skin around the aching joint, leaving it in place for at least five minutes.
Dr Oz: Ginger, Coriander & Peppermint for Stomachache
Everyone has a stomachache now and then. To resolve this, you can try mixing Ginger, Coriander, and Peppermint for instant relief.
Dr Oz: Oatmeal Pimple Mask
If you’re trying to look your best and want to fight acne naturally, you can try applying oatmeal to the area, which can help soothe the skin. Add a teaspoon of honey as an option. You can apply this to any part of your body where acne is bothering you, according to the show.
Dr Oz: Garlic Sore Throat Cure
Is there anything Garlic can’t do? The next time you have a sore throat, grab a clove of Garlic and suck on it. Be sure to peel it first. Then halve it and place one half on each side of your mouth. Take it out after about 15 minutes, and try not to breathe on anyone afterwards. Especially if you keep garlic in the house, this sounds like a promising solution.
