Dr Oz: Belly Bloating Complaints

As Dr. Oz has found out, belly bloating is a big problem for many women. But he has the best solution to get rid of belly bloat: probiotics.

He called Cindy on the stage. Cindy said she will become bloated when ever she over eats or has Chinese food, onions, mushrooms or any other types of salty foods. She tries to counteract the bloating by drinking some seltzer water or taking some antacids. She then likes to walk around for a little while hoping the bloating will go away.

Dr. Oz talks with Cindy who has a hard time digesting food. Dr. Oz recommends taking a probiotic pill or getting probiotics in the form of yogurt.

But it normally does not go away too easily. Dr. Oz told her she needed to do one simple thing to get rid of the belly bloat. He told her to take some probiotics.

Dr Oz: What Are Probiotics?

Dr. Oz explained probiotics help maintain the bodies natural balance. He demonstrated this by taking Cindy over to the demonstration he had set up. On Cindy’s side of the table a large tube held a snowball on top of it. The snowball represented food Cindy had eaten and the water in a cup represented her “digestive juices.” When she poured the juices over the ice, it hardly melted any of the ice. This is what causes belly bloat, according to Dr. Oz.

On Dr. Oz’s side of the table he had the same set up but his water represented the digestive juices with probiotics. When he poured the juices over the ice, it melted completely and quickly.

Dr Oz: Probiotics in Yogurt and Pill Form

So where do you get probiotics? Dr. Oz said the best source is in yogurt, which Cindy said she did not enjoy eating. Well, for everyone who likes yogurt, Dr. Oz said to eat six ounces of yogurt every day for two weeks to build up the amount of bacteria in the stomach because the bacteria doesn’t live forever. He also said not to add any sugar and if you add fruit, make sure it is fresh.

He also cautioned the label on the yogurt must read “live and active cultures.” Dead bacteria isn’t going to help.

But if you don’t like yogurt, or are lactose intolerant, you can take a probiotic pill.
