Two sisters said that they always feel bloated after eating. They are not alone, and the condition seems especially prevalent among women. What is going on with Bloating?
Dr Oz: Bloating Vs Belly Fat
Are you really bloated, or do you have a problem with belly fat? Dr Oz said if you can button your jeans in the morning, but you don’t fit into the same pair at night, you have Bloating.
If you can’t fit into your jeans at any time of day, you probably have a problem with belly fat (or maybe you need to buy some new jeans).
Dr Oz: Chewing Gum & Sports Drinks Cause Bloating
Two sisters said that they feel disgusted by their bloating and would love to have their normal bellies back. Dr Robynne Chutkan, a gastroenterologist and the founder of the Digestive Center for Women, said that you might be surprised to learn that food may not be the cause of your Bloating.
- Chewing Gum could help you put on two dress sizes because of bloating.
- Talking on the Phone could fill your stomach with excess air.
- Sports Drinks after working out could also be causing unwanted bloating.
Women tend to have colons that are more curvy than men, causing even more bloating. Chutkan is telling all about this in her new book, Gutbliss.
Dr Oz: Gutbliss Review + Bloating Advice
Dr Chutkan is the author of Gutbliss: A 10-Day Plan to Ban Bloat, Flush Toxins, and Dump Your Digestive Baggage, joined Dr Oz on the stage to talk about solutions to bloating, which many women are going to be excited to hear. How fast can you reverse bloating? Chutkan said that results can come in as little as 10 days once you are on the right track.
Dr Oz: Curvy Colon in Women
Women are known for their visible curves, but did you know that there are more curves than meet the eye? Women tend to have colons that are five inches longer than men’s, which could have a benefit in childbearing. But the rest of the time, the digestive process takes longer and has more twisty turns, creating potential for blockage.
Food has an easier time passing through a relatively straight male colon, as compared to a more winding female colon, which Dr Oz referred to as “voluptuous.”
Dr Oz: Chewable Bloat Busters
What can women do about bloating as it affects the colon? Dr Chutkan recommended chewing something to break down those air bubbles and free up the colon.
Dr Oz said to use these remedies on a daily basis to see if they give you results. “Think of the ginger chews as heating pads on your insides,” he said.
Dr Oz: Coconut Water Bloat Buster
Sugar and sugar substitutes, using the sweeteners Fructose (in juice) and Sorbitol (in diet drinks), can also be a surprising cause of bloating. Dr Chutkan said that a diet sports drink may not have calories, but the sweetener can ferment, producing gas in the colon.
That can be adding inches to the waistline, thanks to the excess gas. What can you do instead? Water is always a great option for hydration.
Dr Chutkan said that unsweetened Coconut Water is an excellent option, which is low-calorie, low-sugar, and has “a nice flavor.” It also contains electrolytes, which you want after working out.
Dr Oz: Heavier Lunch, Lighter Dinner To Prevent Bloat
Could your digestive system be stalling out after dark? Think of your stomach as having a bedtime. Dr Chutkan said that people are surprised to learn that the body’s digestive process is tied to sun cycles, which is why we have to go to the bathroom in the morning.
Try having a heavier meal at lunchtime, when you need more calories and energy. Then go lighter for dinner, to reduce your caloric intake and take it easier on your body. Do you think these strategies could work for you?
